The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was formed with the primary objective of providing world class education in the field of Information Technology, while addressing the problems of today and tomorrow. This department was established in the year 2002. Right from its inception, the department has been offering excellent infrastructural facilities with a variety of computing platforms to aspiring professional students to meet the burgeoning demands of the IT industry. At present the sanctioned intake is 60 with a provision of admitting six diploma holders in the third semester under lateral entry scheme. The department also offers an M Tech programme specialized in Computer Science and Engineering from the year 2012. The sanctioned intake at present is 18. This department is accredited by NAAC since 2019 September.

The department endeavors to produce confident professionals tuned to real time working environment. The department offers excellent academic environment with a team of highly qualified faculty members to inspire the students to develop their technical skills and inculcate the spirit of team work in them.

The strength of the department lies in the highly motivated students who understand the dynamics of the industry and hone their skills accordingly.

The department has well experienced faculty with postgraduate and doctoral qualifications from prestigious institutions with many publications to their credit. The faculty members regularly update their skills by attending and organizing refresher courses in their areas of specialization.

The department has well equipped laboratories and computing facility. In addition to the Central library there is a department library. Moreover, it has a good collection of project reports, seminar reports, different journals and technical magazines.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (PO)
Engineering Graduates will be able to:
PO1-Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering Fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering Problems.
PO2-Problem analysis: : Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, Natural sciences and engineering sciences.
PO3Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions
PO5Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO6The Engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Musaliar College of Engineering and Technology promotes research in the frontier areas of science and technology. The department encourages its faculty members and students to bring out creative ideas and to implement it as mini projects, course projects and main projects.  The faculty members in the department are actively involved in research activities and can therefore guide the students toward research activities with confidence. The department promotes the publication of student projects and faculties research in Scopus indexed conferences and journals.
